OBE Limo Ride
Receiving the honour of an OBE is sure to make for an exciting day and when Dr John Harcup found out he was to be honoured at Buckingham Palace for his services to the medical profession, and to Malvern’s heritage he and his family couldn’t have been more proud or excited.
Well, not until he found out that the Royal College of General Practitioners which Dr Harcup founded, organised for a limousine to take him and his family to the Palace. Dr Harcup is a retired GP who moved to Malvern in 1963 where he set up the first group practice in the town. The doctor also founded the Malvern Museum and has conducted extensive research into Elgar, which was of particular interest to the Queen when they were able to discuss his work.
When the day for the New Year’s Honours arrived it was quite cold so Dr Harcup and his family were glad of the warm limousine ride to Buckingham Palace. The style and class of the limousine also put them in mind of their destination and they were not disappointed by the sumptuousness of the palace, even seeing their local Malvern water on the refreshments list.
Being presented with his award by the Queen personally, Dr Harcup was honoured along with the heroes of last year’s Glasgow terrorism attack, and even the BBC newsreader, George Alagia. After the presentations and ceremony, Dr Harcup and his family were chauffeured to one of London’s top restaurants, Quaglino’s for lunch with more family and friends.
While you may not be on your way to the palace to visit with the Queen, there is no reason you can’t feel like the guest of royalty when you hire a limousine too; we can even find you a limousine which will make you really feel like royalty as you are taken care of by your chauffeur and gawked at by passersby for your style and class.
